The Interview with Sir. Elxx

Ok as some of you now we had the interview with Sir. Elxx today. He was supposed to show up at 3:00pm but instead he showed up at 4:30pm. But anyways...we still got through it. The first page is just the questions and answers. Then there are a few pages that have everything that was said in the interview. So if you missed it you can read it all here!!!


Q. How old are you?
A. 17 until the end of April.

Q. How long have you been making mods?
A. I did bf1942 server-side modding back in 2004 before bf2 was released. I made awesome starcraft maps in 2002-2003 if that counts.

Q. Did you like people's reactions when you released the sandbox mod?
A. Of course...always good to see people playing a mod you made.

Q. Why did you decide to start modding?
A. Becuase i've always enjoyed taking stuff apart and the like, and getting to know the inner workings of games I liked to play was fun.

Q. What was the most hardest part of making Sandbox?
A. Most hardest...hmm. Getting everything to work properly in multiplayer...it was hard work and a bit of luck. Well, the bf2 engine has some limitations that I had to work around...it wasn't too happy with being told to move static objects around.

Q. Do you have any pets?
A. ... No, I used to have a kitty but she's gone now. I want a new kitty.

Q. How far were you planning to go with Sandbox?
A. Well, I certainly didn't expect to go this far. I wasnt really planning anything. I was just messing around with bf2 code, ended uo making a mod. Then for some reason people acutally started playing the mod.

Q. How did it spread?
A. Mostly becuase Sir. AAK625 is an awesome public relations dude.

Q. What do you use to make all your BF2 mods?
A. SciTE...it's an awesome text editor...like notepad, but with syntax highlighting. I cant stand the bf2 editor, the only thing I used it for was Clearing.

Q. Are there gona be any new maps or vehicles from any of the expansion packs in 1.0?
A. New vehicles.

Q. Have you found any new tips/witty quotes to add?
A. not really, i'm planning to ask players for some to add.

Q. Any definitive new codes?
A. Well, not "definitive" but I imagine the animation system will have some new codes.

Q. Have you found any anti-smacktard things?
A. I think the server admins have done a decent job at policing thier own servers. I'm making most of the anti-smacktard things completely configurable so you can choose to what extent you want to mess up the game for those who just want to build.

Q. Is there anything that you can tell us about Sandbox 1.0?
A. Hmm, what can I tell you. Hopefully it'll do a few things no other Battlefield mod has done before

when you say this, what exactly can you configure that is new?
